How do I get rid of dry skin on my face so I can wear foundation?

My face has horrible patches of dry skin that can’t be seen if I’m not wearing foundation. But I’m very pale and my skin is not good – especially through winter, so I like to wear foundation when I go out. I don’t wear it all the time, so I’m not making the situation worse by wearing it. I’ve tried E45 and exfoliating but it just looks terrible when I put foundation on! What can I do?

Moisturise before bed and when you get up. Also moisturise before you put your make up on, but leave it a couple of minutes to sink in. You will find the make up goes on a lot smoother. Keep exfoliating, but make sure it’s not too rough on your skin as dry skin is often sensitive too.
Good moisturisers are Clinique or Nivea.
The thickness of vaseline or 8 hour cream guarantees to intensely moisturise your skin however it could leave you with a shiny face, as will baby oil. (Combat this with a powder foudation)
Another trick is to mix your foundation with a moisturiser as it will go onto your skin a lot easier. However adding moisturiser will dilute your foundation so you may need to apply concealer or undiluted foundation to certain parts of your face depending on what your skin is like.
Good luck, don’t stress, it’s only the harsh winter weather!!

try the Clinique moisturiser, it costs alot (as in £25!) but lasts ages and works v v well!
your skin absorbs it straight away where as E45 is quite greasy and stays on your skin

Use a rich moisturiser. I know what you mean and the aircon is bad on your skin. Here is an article on skin and how to take care of it.

Mary Kay has a wonderful micro exfoliator that works soo good and feels wonderful when done. There is no stretchy feeling to the skin, no more oily and dry patches it just gets rid of them. And leaves my skin so healthy looking I dont need foundations.

you need to keep your face moisturised for most of the day..use rich moisturisers…..such as nivea…e45 cream isnt that great…..and also whatever foundation you wear..make sure it has extra moisture in it…also dont use too many products to cleanse your face with, as this will dry it out even more…and washing your face with face washes doesnt help either…try jhonsons ph.5.5 face wipes..the pink ones…they will moisturise your face as well as cleansing it. Another thing to do is moisturise your face half an hour before you put our make up on…rub the area with a wipe and your dry skin will start to come off…repeat this until your dry skin has vanished..then put your make up on.

try a face wash thats abrasive. neutregena has several that will scrub the dry skin right off. i have dry skin too, and it helps if you apply lotion to your face several times a day.
    good luck :]

Don’t exfoliate everyday…..maybe once a week, or every other week. The more you wash your face, the dryer it’ll be and the more breakouts you’ll get. I suggest you wash your face every night and morning with a baby wipe. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but i’ve been doing it for years……and my skin is perfect (even during the summer). Then find a moisturizer that doesn’t contain oil (the oil will dry your skin out……I know, sounds crazy, but it’s true. Just like conditioner causing dandruff on your scalp). Moisturize every night (after washing your face) and every morning before you apply your foundation. Good luck! I’ll leave you my picture so you can see my skin.

Dry skin types have to be extremely careful to protect their skin. Yogurt-honey combination helps dry skin. Make an egg pack with a yolk, a teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of milk powder. This is beneficial to dry skin types. There are many helpful tips to cure dry skin at http://useinfo-dryskin.blogspot.com/

moisturizer is the key to keeping skin hydrated but also try and keep yourself away from extreme heat soaps can also dry you out so try switching if you have not tried that. Moisturize more than one time a day.

Exfoliating products are normally better for oily skin.

Use hydrating products. If you like your exfoliator, use a creamy one. Normal ones are probably too harsh for your skin type.

Try using Jojoba product from The Body Shop (www.thebodyshop.com or co.uk, depending on where your from). Great for dry skin. Animal friendly too :)

If you looking for foundation, use a liquid one. One that helps keep you hydrated. Or use one for sensitive skin.

Use moisturiser twice a day and always put it on before applying make up.

    :)

I believe natural is best. Try replenishing your natural skin’s vitality by first ONLY wash with water and a very mild moisturizing soap or no soap. Do this only at night and morning. Then put extra virgin olive oil and honey on your skin. Leave it on your skin for an hour. If your skin can take it, you could use sugar and olive oil to exfoliate. Oatmeal is also replenishing to your skin mixed with olive oil.

Hi hun. I recently suffered the exact same thing. Winter is terrible for drying up skin.

The key is to start with a really good face care range. Try Dermalogica. Its pricy but looking after your skin is worth it as its the only one you have. These products are fantastic and favoured by many celebs.

Precleanse is a product that will tell your skin that it is not producing enough oil in drier areas.
Super rich moisteriser is a fantastic intense cream that will add moisture back into the skin.

Visit a dermalogica stocklist salon where they can give you a free face mapping to let you know what products would suit your skin. I tend to use http://www.perfectskindirect.co.uk to buy the products as they are cheaper online then from the salon I use.

I use both products above and swear by them. Whilst you are on the website try Jane Iredale Pressed powder foundation. Favoured by wedding makeup artists, It is mineral based which means no harmful chemicals for your skin and lasts all day. Its very natural and this will help conceal many of those dry areas. I find that the liquid and powder foundations on the high street make my skin dry (this is from the chemicals in them). Be wary of other mineral based companies about as some still contain chemicals.

Too much exfoliation is bad for your skin so try to get as much moisture back into the skin as you can.

    Good luck.

  • Desperate to be a Mum!!!:

You don’t have to… go and buy a foundation for dry skin, Clinique does one….

OR Use Oilatum/Doublebase 3 times a week and it should clear up, apply before foundation also.
