Depending on age anti-aging products can either be over priced moisturizers or a beauty must have.

If you are under 25 anti-aging products have no benefit other than being over priced moisturizers. With the exception of an eye cream for those who suffer from puffy/dry eyes, your biggest anti-aging product should be SUNSCREEN. In combination with cleansing and moisturizing everyday, sunscreen can delay the effects of aging YEARS !! So invest in a good one and you won’t have to waste your money on any other "anti-aging" products until your really need it.

i know its pretty young but I just want to be cautious although Im wondering is it advisable for girls like me (just 21) to use anti aging creams like olay and ponds as nightly cream or should i just stick to regular moisturizers?

You are never too young to start! I wish I’d started earlier, although I’ve had good results so far with starting in my late 20’s. You should do what you can to preserve your skin, and the most important thing is to wear sunblock every day, even in winter, when it’s overcast, etc.. etc… My dermatologist(s) have hammered this into my head for years. There are a ton out there in cosmetic lines that are very good, but very expensive. I used "Elta Gold UV Shield" for a while, which was sold at my derm’s office, but was $25 for a 3 oz. tube, but then found a good non-greasy sunblock that was much less expensive and sold in most drug stores that my derm approved: Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer dry touch sunblock. I use spf 45, but I think they make it in 30, 70, etc… It is not like other sunblocks or lotions, it absorbs right in, moisturizes, and is so light you can’t feel it on your skin…it can be worn by itself, or under foundation or powder. I would also recommend Cetaphil cleanser (also discovered through visits to dermatologists) or the generic brand of it that they sell at Long’s (half the price, same ingredients)…it is not soap, so it moisturizes, but doesn’t block pores (I had very bad adult acne and this is what every derm has recommended to me over 20 years). You might also look into micro-dermabrasion…sounds awful, but it’s really just like getting a facial, and it’s really good for rejuvenating the skin, and stimulating collagen to the surface of the skin which helps it Look Younger. I did this professionally for a while to minimize old scars I had from acne (and it worked very well), but people do it just to keep their skin nice. It costs about $125 and up, if done at a spa or derm’s office, but there are also over the counter options available. I have used the Spa Sciences micro dermabrasion kit (about $40, with a supply of the cleansers, lotions, etc… that still hasn’t run out a year later, doing it once a month) with great results, but you need to be very gentle until you find out what your skin can tolerate…it doesn’t seem like it’s doing much during the process, but it really does! and you can see the results right away (within a few hours, but your skin feels great right afterward). Any other facial product by Spa Sciences is also good…I have tried a bunch, and ran it by my derm, who liked the products also…you can find them on the web or in Longs, Rite Aid, Target, etc… Their eye wrinkle lotions and masks are wonderful, and if you are worried about aging, you should use some sort of eye area moisturizer daily. For the rest of your body…at your age, I’d recommend baby lotion, or one of the Cetaphil lotions (or a generic version of it), as these are very good for skin and relatively "pure" compared to other lotions (as well as economical)..Neutrogena is also very good stuff. And, my goodness, girl!! Don’t worry about aging…it only gets better!

I am 2 summers over 30 but I would like to start using anti-aging products that prevent or eliminate wrinkles,fine lines,etc,. I read about Imedeen-it carries topical products as well as tablets,does this brand really work? While you are at it,please suggest a brand that would not be exteremey expensive.Please suggest a brand you have actually tried,thanks.

The only product that has been approved by the FDA is Retina A, start with .025 mg once daily, increase to 2 x’s daily, then switch to .050 mg once daily, then twice daily. If you under 40 years old, your insurance will probably pay for it, because it is also used for acne, but I’m in my 50’s and it was prescribed for wrinkles, skin and my insurance company wouldn’t cover it.
This works if you use it daily.

I think Oil of Olay is probably the worst. I am seriously wonder how old some of the women are in these ads. I am 32 and do not need anti-aging cream, some of these women Look Younger than me…I am thinking on average they are about 28. What do you think?

I’m 17, and I do a lot to take care of my face/skin/body. SPF 85+, moisturizer and lotion every day – I want to be healthy and I also want to look good when I’m older. I’ve been doing this routine for a couple years, but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to add an anti-aging serum, because I read that those are most effective if started at a young age. Should I add this? Why or why not? Is what I’ve been doing effective enough?

I wish I would have started when I was that young! YES it is a good idea. If you want to beat aging, it is good to keep your skin well moisturized and elastic. I don’t know what you are using right now, but more than likely it is a combination of products. I found a great product – Lifecell – that combines the ingredients that fight aging, with moisturizers and protein building ingredients as well. Now that I go with just one product, you would not BELIEVE how much space I have on my counter!

What I liked about it:
- Great light, fruity scent
- Non-sticky product texture that’s thick but doesn’t leave a sticky film on my face and neck
- Very moisturizing
- A little goes a long way, and you don’t need to use a lot of it.

What I didn’t like about it:
- Can’t positively say if it actually helped to lift or restore elasticity
- Jar packaging isn’t convenient, I wish it came in travel-friendly pump form.

Somebody once asked me what my anti-aging secret was, and I told them that it was a combination of immaturity and sunscreen. My sunscreen choice since I was a teenager has been Olay Complete. I’ve always had good luck with Olay products and love trying anything that they come out with because I’ve been a long-term user of the brand, so I got the chance to try Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream I was stoked. Get me on that Olay train!

I have to say the biggest thing about this cream is that it smells and feels great. The scent is light but not overwhelming or chemical. It’s light and fruity and a pleasure to put on at night. The texture of the product once applied to my skin is also great. I don’t like the sticky feeling some lotions have – I especially can’t stand having a sticky neck, yuck! But this cream leaves my skin feeling dry and moisturized.

The active ingredients are an amino-peptide complex and an intracellular fortifier made up of hyaluronic acid. Like with other anti-aging products that I’ve tested, I can’t really say if Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream actually lifted sagging areas and restored elasticity. It’s really hard to quantify, especially if you don’t have lots of areas sagging areas to start with (gimme a few years though, ha!)

The biggest points with this cream are that I like the texture, scent and the fact that it does provide excellent moisturization.

You might like it if:
- You are a fan of the Olay brand
- You like your moisturizers to feel dry and not sticky after application
- You need a heavier moisturizer on your face and neck.

Okay so based on this I would buy it over Neutrogena. They werent in this blog at all..not for anti aging anyway

I am only a teenager, but I was just curious if anti-aging creams, lotions, serums, etc. would be healthy for my skin to use.

These products are just marketing gimmick. Some contains harmful chemicals which can make you feel good for the time being but in longer term have side effects. Aging is a natural process and we must accept this. If you will try to stay fit mentally and physically you will remain energetic for longer age. So the best strategy is live your life Naturally.

I’d like to give myself a "facial" and want something that would be anti-aging — something that will exfoliate and tighten pores.

Anti Aging Facial

2 teaspoons of plain yogurt

½ teaspoon of honey

½ teaspoon of lemon juice

3 capsules of vitamin E (equivalent of 300 units)

Combine the yogurt, honey and lemon juice. Open the vitamin E capsules and fold the contents into the mix. Apply the facial to the face and leave it on the skin for 15 minutes. Rinse off.

I’ve been noticing a few wrinkles here and there lately and have been considering some of those pricey Oil of Olay type anti-aging products. But the problem is, what if I stop being able to afford the product regularly? Is my skin going to be "addicted" to the product and I’ll shrivel like a prune if I stop using it?

Your skin does not get addicted, however, the products only work as you use them. So, if you stop using them, your skin will continue as it was, you will not suddenly wrinkle up or anything. The best thing you can do for your skin is moisturize! If you invest in anything, make it a great eye cream. IT may be pricey but it will last you nearly a year. You don’t need anything super fancy for a moisturizer, as long as you are consistently using one in the am and pm. Make sure you drink plenty of water too. Wrinkles come from free radicals in the environment and stress so for the most part fancy creams aren’t really necessary. It’s kind of like this…moisturizing in general is like flying first class, the good moisturizers and like flying private-you get a few extra perks, but both get you to the same place.
